Import Your Venue's CAD Drawing — Design Your Event on Top of It
Got a DWG file from your architect or venue? Upload it to Floors.live, crop the floor area you need, and start placing tables, stages, and equipment at accurate real-world scale. Automatic unit detection and scale calibration — from CAD drawing to event layout in minutes.
Import a DWG File FreeUpload Any DWG File — Up to 50 MB
Drag and drop your DWG file into the editor or click to browse. Floors.live accepts DWG files from any AutoCAD version, up to 50 MB. The file is processed entirely in your browser via WebAssembly — no server upload, no waiting for cloud processing, no file size restrictions from cloud storage quotas.
- Drag-and-drop DWG upload in the floorplan editor
- All AutoCAD DWG versions supported
- Files up to 50 MB processed in-browser via WASM
- No cloud upload — files stay on your computer
- Instant rendering with SVG vector output
- Automatic Hebrew SHX font detection for Israeli plans
Automatic Unit Detection & Scale Calibration
Floors.live reads the INSUNITS header from your DWG file to detect the drawing's unit system — millimeters, centimeters, meters, feet, inches, or any of 14 supported unit types. The scale is automatically calibrated so that event objects placed on the drawing match real-world dimensions. You can also override the unit selection manually if the DWG header is incorrect.
- Automatic INSUNITS header detection (14 unit types)
- Smart defaults for common Israeli CAD practices (mm header → cm actual)
- Manual unit override for edge cases (mm, cm, m, in, ft)
- Auto-generated scale calibration line at import
- Pixels-per-unit calculation for accurate object placement
- Grid size automatically matched to the drawing's unit system
Crop the Exact Floor Plan Area You Need
Architectural DWG files often include site plans, multiple floors, utility diagrams, and title blocks. After the initial render, Floors.live shows a full preview of the drawing and lets you select just the area you want to import. Zoom in with the slider, choose an aspect ratio, and apply the crop. The output is a clean, focused floor plan — as vector SVG for infinite zoom quality.
- Full-drawing preview with interactive crop selection
- Zoom slider (1× to 5×) for precise area selection
- Aspect ratio presets: Free, 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4
- Vector SVG output — no pixelation at any zoom level
- Optional high-resolution PNG rasterization (up to 16,384 px)
- "Use Full Image" to import the entire drawing without cropping
Place Tables & Equipment on Your CAD Drawing
Once imported, the DWG floor plan becomes the background of your event layout. Place round tables, banquet tables, stages, dance floors, bars, AV equipment, and 40+ objects directly on the architectural drawing — all snapping to the calibrated scale. Add your guest list, assign seating, and share the final layout with your venue, caterer, and production team.
- 40+ event objects in 7 categories (tables, venue, AV, architecture, etc.)
- Objects placed at accurate real-world scale on the CAD background
- Guest list management with CSV import and RSVP tracking
- Auto-assign seating algorithm with relationship constraints
- Real-time collaboration — share a live link with vendors
- Export to PDF and PNG with scale bar and capacity table
Frequently Asked Questions
What file formats can I import?⌄
Currently, Floors.live supports DWG files — the native format of AutoCAD and the most widely used CAD format in architecture. You can also upload standard images (JPEG, PNG, WebP up to 10 MB) as background floor plans. DXF support may be added in the future.
Can I import a DWG from AutoCAD 2024 or 2025?⌄
Yes. The WASM-based parser supports all DWG file format versions, from legacy AutoCAD R13 through the latest AutoCAD 2024/2025 format. If your architect sends you a DWG file, it will work.
How accurate is the scale after import?⌄
Very accurate. Floors.live reads the INSUNITS header from the DWG to determine the drawing's unit system, then calculates the exact meters-per-unit conversion. After import, a scale calibration line is automatically placed on the canvas. You can verify and adjust it using the two-point calibration tool if needed.
Can I import multiple floors from one DWG file?⌄
DWG files sometimes contain multiple floors or areas in a single drawing. Use the crop tool to select the specific floor or room you need for each event layout. You can create multiple Floors.live events, each importing a different cropped region from the same DWG file.
What happens to layers and blocks in the DWG?⌄
The DWG is converted to a flat SVG rendering that preserves all visible geometry — lines, arcs, text, hatches, and dimensions. AutoCAD layers, blocks, and xrefs are rendered as they appear in the default view. The imported floor plan serves as a visual background for your event layout, not an editable CAD drawing.
Common Questions
Which CAD formats can I import into Floors.live?⌄
Floors.live supports DWG and DXF import. For other formats (PDF, SVG, image), you can upload them as a background reference layer.
Will the scale be preserved when I import a CAD file?⌄
Yes. Floors.live reads the scale from the CAD file and maintains accurate dimensions. You can also manually set the scale if needed.
Can I edit the imported CAD geometry?⌄
You can place event elements, furniture, and labels on top of the imported plan. Direct CAD geometry editing is not currently supported.
Is CAD import available on the free plan?⌄
Yes. DWG/DXF import is included on the free plan. Contact support if you have large or complex files.
