Questions this guide answers

How do I measure a distance on the plan?

Press M, or open Measure in the toolbar, then click the two points. The distance shows in feet and inches on an imperial plan. Press Enter, or click Keep, to leave it on the plan as a dimension line; a plain measurement disappears when you click away.

How big is a concert grand piano?

A full concert grand is close to nine feet long and about five feet wide; a baby grand is five to six feet long. Add two feet behind the bench for the pianist and a clear path from the load-in door that is wider than the piano on its side.

Will the measurement print?

Yes. A kept dimension line is part of the plan, so it shows in the PDF export and on the client's link. Measure the few distances that decide the job, such as the platform depth or a door width, and keep only those.

Will a nine-foot grand fit up there?

The Autumn Concert in Unity Temple. The drawing is in, at true scale.

Open Measure in the toolbar.

Click the platform's front edge, then the wall behind it. Seven feet, seven inches.

Press Enter to keep it on the plan for the piano tech.

Too shallow for a nine-foot grand: it goes on the floor.

Next: move the lectern exactly one foot.
